One of My Favorite Things……

One of my favorite things about a new year is it’s a point in time, which is a natural reminder to reflect and set a plan for what’s to come. One of my favorite parts of living in the countryside of Japan where traditions are still. There were so many celebrations that reminded to give pause to the past and plan for the future. The first and last day of every school year is celebrated at school. The anniversary of the death of a loved one is also commemorated as with …. discovering what the new trends will be. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing what the trend forecasts show.

I was ready to put 2020 in the rear-view mirror! You? Bring on 2021!

Refresh and Renew!

Are you ready to change things up in your home? If so, here are some thoughts to refresh your space.

1. Don’t be afraid of color. Whether you’re updating your traditional furniture or painting a room. Color is your friend. It’s often a quick and easy change to refresh a space. Think fabrics, paint, tile, and even lighting for an instant update.

2. Lighting, the jewelry of a room, this is so often overlooked. Looking for a WOW factor? A gorgeous light fixture could be just what you need. Feeling like your rooms are dark? Add a few canned lights, and suddenly, in these dark days of winter, your spirits are lifted. To really set the mood, be sure to have several sources of lighting in every room. Even in your kitchen, think under and in your cabinets.

3. Surround yourself with nature. I recently finished an owner’s bathroom where we used stone in his shower and a beautiful shade of green to give it that relaxed, spa feel. I love real plants all around my home. Tip: If you don’t have a green thumb? Buy a plant that is big with well-established roots. They are way more forgiving if you forget to water them. I also use silk floral arrangements to liven any space. Geodes are currently very trendy for bringing nature in. From book ends to wall art, they are everywhere.

4. If you were like me, when quarantine started, you used your extra time to organize for what we thought would be a few months. Fast (or not so fast) forward 10 months, and I need to organize again.

5. You may have a big design project you are contemplating in 2021. If that’s you, I can’t overstate how important it is to plan. Start by gathering inspiration photos.
